Like most cities in New Jersey, Montclair is prone to a wide range of auto injury accidents. If you’ve been on the road, you probably have a good idea of what can cause an accident. But did you know potholes, on average, cause billions of dollars in vehicle damages and a large portion of highway deaths?

Where do potholes come from, you may wonder? Potholes are formed due to several factors, including water, freezing, excessive heat, wear and tear, and time.

Most of America’s highways were built in the 1950s through the 1970s, and were built to last 50 years. As you may imagine, some roads have lasted better than others. Potholes remain because of poor maintenance throughout all these years.

The American Society of Civil Engineers believes that it would cost $2.7 trillion to fix crumbling highway and bridge infrastructure in the U.S. And the average annual cost for vehicle repairs due to factors such as potholes is $377 a pop. Because repairs are so costly, you might imagine why potholes remain an issue.

If you’ve run into a pothole and have been injured in the process, our local Montclair personal injury attorneys at the Law Offices of Herbert I. Ellis are always ready to assist you. We offer a free consultation, and are always ready to fight for your case in court. Call us now at 888-355-4752.

Montclair Deer Crossings

Watch out for that deer! That’s right—during fall breeding season, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Fish and Wildlife regularly issues advisories reminding drivers to be alert for white-tailed deer, which are prone to unexpectedly run onto the road and cause accidents.

According to the DEP, thousands of collisions in New Jersey are caused by deer each year, and more than half of these accidents occur during fall mating season, which peaks in November.

“People should always be alert for deer when driving, but especially at this time of year, when deer can suddenly run onto any roadway, from busy highways to country roads,” Division of Fish and Wildlife Director David Chanda stated. “One moment of inattentive driving can result in serious or even life-altering consequences.”

If there’s a deer crossing near you, you may have to dial the number of an attorney near you. Stay tuned for our new page in our Personal Injury section, ‘Deer Crossings,’ coming this fall during the deer mating season.
