Motorcyclist Pursued by Police Hit by Truck

Posted on: June 21, 2021

A police officer pursued a motorcyclist on Route 1 in Woodbridge last Thursday due to his unresponsiveness to pull over. The motorcyclist was then hit by a truck in front of the officer, an accident which killed him minutes later. This incident is being investigated by New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal. State authorities are calling the motorcyclist’s death an accident.
This incident presents a problem for motorcyclists in New Jersey as the deceased’s loved ones will not be able to turn to the personal injury protection (PIP) built into vehicle insurance coverage in the state for immediate medical bills. This is because motorcyclists in New Jersey cannot have PIP coverage built into their insurance policy. Motorcyclists also cannot turn to the PIP coverage of the driver that hit them.
Particularly in the case of a fatal accident, the state laws surrounding motorcycle accidents point to the need for personal injury lawyers to achieve justice for the deceased’s loved ones, especially if the deceased was the main financial support of the family.
