A 51-year-old man, John Fahey, was killed Friday as his van went off the road, striking a row
of trees and ejecting him from his own vehicle.
Fahey was traveling north on Newark-Pompton Turnpike about 4:41 a.m. when he went off
the road, mounted a curb, traveled across a sidewalk and front lawn and crashed into trees,
according to Lt. First Class Daniel Daly of the Wayne Police Department.
Fahey was thrown from the vehicle and found on the ground nearby.
Wayne police officers, members of the local first aid squad and hospital paramedics tried to
revive Fahey, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
