Recall on Toro Power Max 826 OHAE Snowthrowers
Posted on: February 23, 2021
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued a recall for Toro Power Max 826 OHAE Snowthrowers. The snow removal tool has been linked to possible amputation due to an auger that fails to disengage. Toro is recalling about 6,700 snowthrowers sold from November 2020 to January 2021. The model number 37802 was sold by Ace Hardware, Home Depot, and authorized Toro dealers.
As of now, no injuries have been reported, but Toro claims they received five reports from consumers in which the auger responsible for firing snow through the discharge chute failed to disengage when the control handle was released. This could pose a risk for anyone attempting to stop the spinning by reaching into the area. Toro recommends returning the recalled snowthrower to an authorized dealer for repair. The problem appears fixable and owners can hold onto their devices for future snowfall.
Sometimes, injuries often go unnoticed if they are caused by products that have not been flagged for recall. The best thing to do to avoid injuries from defective products is to consistently check the CPSC’s website and other publications for updates on recalls. Additionally, it is always best to follow instructions for any new products purchased, read the safety manual before working with a new power tool at home or work, and make sure to follow safety guides on work sites.
