NYPD Officer Faces Discipline for Killing Mentally Ill Woman

Posted on: October 4, 2021

A NYPD officer was acquitted three years ago on murder charges for shooting a mentally ill woman in her home, but he may now face discipline for that fatal shooting.

Officers were trying to coax the 66-year old woman, a schizophrenic, out of her bedroom when one officer tried to grab her and she picked up a baseball hat and held it up in the air. The officer shot her and she died as a result of the injuries.

The police sergeant faced murder charges for the woman’s death, but he was acquitted in 2018. He now faces disciplinary charges that could end his career. The hearing was set to begin today (October 4).
